Founded in 1989, Blue Bird Aviation is one of Sudan’s best established aviation service companies.

With the influx of foreign registered light aircraft into the Sudan during the 90s for humanitarian aid operations; Blue Bird Aviation, now a complete maintenance operation, had become the leading provider of line and base maintenance for those aircraft within the Sudan. Since, the majority of those aircraft had South African registration; Blue Bird Aviation had been awarded a South African AMO (Aircraft Maintenance Organisation) license after being inspected by the South African CAA (Civil Aviation Authority), becoming the only company in Sudan with a license to maintain foreign registered aircraft by the mid 90s.

The dawn of the new millennium saw Blue Bird Aviation expand both horizontally and vertically in terms of its services. As the maintenance operation continued to grow, Blue Bird Aviation added ground handling services to provide a more comprehensive solution to its clients. During the days when Sudan entered the oil production era and the signing of the Sudanese Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), Blue Bird Aviation was there to witness the expansion of the aviation industry. Blue Bird Aviation took a corporate decision to start its own flight operations service to provide aircraft chartering.

The company’s fleet started with the De Havilland Twin Otter DHC-6 aircraft with a 19 seat capacity and moved on to the current capacity of being a regional aircraft operator utilizing the Dutch Fokker 50 and the Canadian Bombardier CRJ aircraft with a 50 seat capacity.
